NOTE: Due to the Extreme Danger involved with this type of action, we are intentionally leaving out steps of what we did and how we did it. NEVER EVER TRY THIS! As mentioned on the main Jeep page, the main fuel tank has several pin holes in the tank by the drain plug. We had a couple of choices; replace the tank (very difficult to locate), repair the tank (VERY VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!!). We chose the repairing of the tank on Dec 5 2009. After removing the tank (we will have a page later on since we have to remove it again), we removed all of the remaining fuel. Then we started cleaning the area around the pinholes with a drill mounted wire brush. Once the area was brushed down to the bare metal, we used lead solder to fill in the holes. It took several tries to fill the holes to the point to stop the leak (about 4 hours due to the cold temps). We reinstalled the tank after thinking that it was patched on Dec 8 2009.
well it started leaking once we put 4 gallons of gas in it. Well back to
the drawing board.
So we have decided to mount a VW Bus fuel tank as a secondary tank (it will become the aux tank after re-repairing the current fuel tank) To cross connect both tanks (later on), we will be using a fuel tank selector valve from a 73 Ford Bronco. We will show how we are mounting all of the modifications.
